The Alnasca Challenge 2025 is not just a sporting competition .
It is a modern tribal call , a moment when skill, passion and identity intertwine under the same sky.

Whether you are:

🗡️ A competitive athlete who experiences every throw as a ritual of precision and mental mastery…
🔧 An artisan knife maker , eager to see your blade truly “speak” in the hands of the person using it…
📜 A scholar of the history of edged weapons , fascinated by the ancient gesture of throwing as an art form…
🌲 A lover of the outdoors and bushcraft , who wants to breathe adrenaline among the trees…

👉 Here you find home. And you find others like you.

Because Alnasca is more than an event :
It is a community that meets , exchanges ideas, measures itself, improves.
It is an opportunity to inspire each other , question ourselves and return home with a sharper blade… and also with a clearer vision .

📍 It doesn’t matter where you come from. It matters how you shoot. And what you put into it.

🎯 Why Participate or Attend the Alnasca Challenge 2025?

Because it’s not just a race.
It’s an experience. A ritual. A total immersion in nature, technique and community spirit.
This is what makes the Alnasca Challenge something unique :

🥇 To compare yourself with the best European throwers

It’s not every day that you can measure yourself against the elite of sport throwing. At Alnasca there will be international champions, cutting-edge techniques, styles from all over Europe . Whether you want to learn, challenge or just observe: here you breathe competence and true passion .

🌀 To discover disciplines that (perhaps) you have never seen live

Have you ever seen a perfectly planted double-headed axe throw at a competition distance?
Have you ever heard the sharp sound of a knife hitting the center with the tip? This is the opportunity to experience the physics and elegance of the technical gesture
up close , much more than a scene from a movie.

🤝 To meet the community: makers, instructors, athletes and enthusiasts

Here you don’t just throw to win: you throw to share .
Alnasca is also networking, chats between throwers, exchanges between artisans , testing of materials, photos, advice, future collaborations.
Whether you are a knife maker , a coach or a simple practitioner: you will never be a stranger .

🌲 To enjoy a weekend in the wildest and purest nature of Italian Switzerland

The Verzasca Valley will get inside you. Turquoise water, prehistoric rocks, the scent of the forest.
Camping, taking pictures, breathing deeply while you witness an ancestral discipline transformed into a modern sport: a weekend that regenerates, entertains and inspires .

💡 In short:

If you love the knife, the challenge, the environment or the humanity behind every gesture… you have to be at Alnasca.

🌄 Location – The Wild and Poetic Verzasca Valley

There are places that seem to have been designed specifically to host extraordinary events . The Verzasca Valley is one of these.
Nestled between the mountains of the Canton of Ticino , in Switzerland, this valley is a corner of the world where nature and silence meet to tell an ancient story . That of an emerald-colored river, of medieval stone bridges , of woods that smell of resin , and of paths that seem to have come out of an Alpine legend.

💧 The Verzasca River – famous for its crystalline and turquoise waters – flows right next to the competition field. A pure, powerful and primitive frame , which amplifies every gesture, every breath, every shot that lands.

🎯 The shooting range is located outdoors , in an area equipped with:

  • Natural wooden targets , handcrafted

  • Demarcated and safe shooting lines

  • Shaded areas for athletes and spectators

  • Support points for technical material

🌲 Here, the throw becomes ritual.
Every rotation of the blade is reflected in the surface of the river.
Every silence before the throw is filled by the sound of the wind in the leaves.
Every stick that hits the target is more than a point : it is an agreement with the environment .

📸 And yes, every corner is perfect for a postcard (or Instagram) photo.

🔧 Considerations from an Instructor and Knife Maker – The Event as a Truth Revealer

I speak as someone who, like you perhaps, experiences the knife not only as an object, but as an extension of the body and a reflection of the mind .
As a knife maker , every blade I make carries with it a responsibility: to work when it really counts . Not on the display bench, but in the field , under the rain, the tension and the passing of time. And it is precisely at events like the Alnasca Challenge that everything is revealed.

Every launch is a test of geometry and soul :

  • Is the thread holding?

  • Does the balance behave as expected under real rotation?

  • Does the material respond well after dozens, hundreds of impacts?

  • Can the engineered grip hold up to sweat and racing pressure?

🧪 In no other context can you get such honest feedback.

As an instructor , however, I see the competition as a living laboratory of applied biomechanics and self-control .
Sport throwing is not brute force, but a dance of precision : posture, alignment, release, breathing.
Each athlete must compete not only against the target, but against his own ego.
💭 Here you don’t win if you’re aggressive: you win if you’re centered.

I teach that you don’t throw a knife: you release it .
That you don’t need muscle: you need rhythm .
That it doesn’t matter to act tough: it matters to master internal tension.

📍 The Alnasca Challenge is not just a competition. It is a moment of truth.
For those who shoot. For those who teach. For those who build. For those who watch in silence… before hitting the mark.

🔍 Curiosities from the World of Throwing – Between History, Records and Legends

Although knife and axe throwing is now a codified sport, its roots are ancient, mysterious and often surprising . Here are three curiosities that you may not have known:

🥇The world record for precision knife throwing

Do you know what the official world record is for the number of knives thrown accurately within one minute?

👉 It is 102 knives in 1 minute , all planted on valid targets, and was set by David Adamovich (aka The Great Throwdini ), one of the most famous American knife throwers, also known for his speed in trick shots and for his stage shows.
His style combines surgical precision, timing and rhythm management – all crucial skills even in the context of modern competition.

🌀 Who invented the modern no-spin throw?

  • Full-spin : A full rotation (360°), used at regulation distance.
👉 “For close-range targets I prefer the no-spin: faster, more precise.”

⚖️ Blade-heavy / Handle-heavy

Definition : Referring to the balance of the blade , that is, where the weight of the tool is concentrated.

  • Blade-heavy : The blade weighs more than the handle → faster rotation

  • Handle-heavy : The handle weighs more → slower rotation, more control
    👉 “For full-spin throwing I choose a blade-heavy knife, it spins better.”

🎯 Kill Zone

Definition : The center area of the target, usually circular and with the highest scoring.
Synonym : center, bullseye
👉 “Three hits in the kill zone = a perfect round!”

📏 Stance

Definition : The position of the body and feet at the moment of throwing.
Variations : parallel, oblique, open, closed
👉 “A solid stance is essential for accuracy.”

📐 Rotation Distance

Definition : The distance from which you throw with a given spin (e.g. full-spin ≈ 3-4 meters).
👉 “If you are too close or too far away, the spin doesn’t close and you don’t stick.”

✋ Grip

Definition : The way you hold the blade. There are different grips depending on the technique (no-spin, hammer grip, pinch grip, icepick).
👉 “A good grip is half the battle: no effective throw without control.”

🕳️ Bounce-out

Definition : When the knife hits the target but bounces instead of landing.
👉 “Beware of bounce-outs! Zero points and safety risk.”

🧠 Final tip : If you are new to this world, reread this glossary before each session. Knowing the terms allows you to communicate better, learn faster and enjoy the experience more.

🛒 Where to Buy Approved Throwing Knives – A Guide for Athletes and Enthusiasts

One of the first obstacles for those approaching the world of sport knife throwing is precisely this: finding throwing knives that are reliable, balanced and, above all, approved for official competitions .

👉 Not all “throwing” knives sold online are suitable for competitions: many are unbalanced, too light, with decorative geometries or built with materials unsuitable for intensive use.

Here is a selected list of retailers, manufacturers and brands where you can buy blades certified, tested and approved by professional throwers and European federations .
